The “Montseny, Biosphere Reserve” brand is a tool to promote and give visibility to all local resources, products, goods, and services produced and offered within the boundaries of the Reserve, under the paradigm of environmental and territorial sustainability and a new social economy. This aligns with the objectives of the Biosphere Reserve and the 2021–2030 Biosphere Reserve Action Plan.
These first thirteen accreditations have been granted automatically to entities and establishments already certified by the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (ECST), as they already meet the brand’s requirements in terms of their commitment to improving tourism development and management in Montseny, while respecting the needs of the environment, local residents, businesses, and visitors.
Any new companies wishing to obtain accreditation must meet the requirements set out in the regulations. In this regard, the “Montseny, Biosphere Reserve” brand may be used by local resources, products, goods, or services—especially those in the agri-food, craft, and cultural or recreational tourism sectors—that contribute to achieving environmental and sustainability benefits in the production of goods or the provision of services, and that uphold a commitment to the cultural traditions and identity of the area where their activities take place. In addition, they must comply with the specific requirements and commitments outlined in the sectoral terms and conditions.
Regarding the procedure to obtain the “Montseny, Biosphere Reserve” brand, companies must submit an application justifying that they meet the required criteria and outlining their improvement commitments, in accordance with the sector-specific terms recently approved by the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Girona Provincial Council. The documentation will be available shortly on the Biosphere Reserve’s official website.
